Homemade mint syrup

Homemade mint syrup is a refreshing and delicious drink that can be easily prepared with just a few simple ingredients. Mint is an aromatic herb that grows easily in gardens and vegetable plots, and it is common to have a significant amount of it on hand. Unlike industrial mint syrup, which often contains artificial coloring to give it its green color, homemade mint syrup requires only natural ingredients. However, if you miss the green color of store-bought syrup, you can add green food coloring to your homemade syrup.

Ingredients

  • 750 ml of water
  • 400 g of sugar
  • 20 fresh mint stems

Preparation steps

  1. Start by washing the mint stems, including the leaves. If the stems are long, you can cut them into two or three parts.
  2. In a large pot, bring the water and sugar to a boil. Add the mint stems and let them simmer over low heat for 5 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool covered.
  3. Filter the infusion through a fine strainer or a sieve, pressing the mint well to extract all the juice. Pour the syrup into a bottle and keep it cool.
  4. To serve, mix the mint syrup in flat or sparkling water, chilled to your liking.
